Frequently asked questions
Q- My player is small or has never played before and I'm hesitating to register, will he get in the games?
A- We love having players new to football join us, and first year players join every year in every grade. Don't worry about their size or experience, we'll find a place for your player and help encourage them to develop into the best version of themselves they can be!
Q - Do Saints teams practice every night?
A- Most teams will practice every night to start the season in the first two weeks, however the final schedule is up to the head coach. We try to standardize 5-7pm in cases where siblings of different grades are playing. After school starts, teams typically back down to 3 or 4 nights per week of practice.
Q- My family has a vacation planned the first week of practice, is that OK?
A- We understand that summer is the time to spend with families and that conflicts can occur. If your player has to miss practice for any reason, please contact your head coach. Know that because football requires all players to be on the same page for the success and safety of the team, missing practice may affect playing time on game day.
Q- What about gameday, where and when are games played?
A- Conference games are played on Saturdays, typically 6th grade plays at 10:30am, 7th grade at noon, 8th grade at 1:30pm but this can occasionally vary based on field and officials' availability. Home games are played at Xavier high school or FVL high school, away games can be at any of the Appleton high schools, Hortonville, Oshkosh or Fond du Lac high schools.
Q- What does the fundraiser entail?
A- To keep registration costs low, after the first week of practice, players are asked to sell premade frozen cookie dough which sell for $20 per package of 40. Each player is asked to sell at least 15 over the 10 day sale, prizes are awarded for those who sell more. Alternatively, you can opt out of the fundraiser by paying an additional $150 at registration.
Q- Does Saints football share finances with Xavier Catholic Schools?
A- No. Saints football is a cooperative team who is allowed to use XCS finance department for accounting and transparency purposes, which is why checks are made to "XCS/Saints Football", but there is a separate account only for Saints football expenses. No funds are taken from or given to either Xavier or FVL school systems.
Q- Will there be one team or two?
A- When registration approaches 50 in a grade the coaches and board will consider splitting into two teams. If that would happen, teams would be split evenly, not into A and B teams as we are in a developmental conference.
Q- I'm interested in being a sponsor, coaching, or have other questions about the Saints organization, who do I contact?
A- Sponsors or coaches who have a player may indicate their choice during registration and will be contacted when registration is completed in May. Any questions should be sent to Saints Football and Wrestling director Peter Katz at foxvalleysaints@gmail.com
